Jamaica Fifty Fireworks on the Waterfront

Jamaica 50 Fireworks on the Kingston Waterfront is scheduled for New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31, 2011.  The event takes on special significance this year, as it ushers in Jamaica’s 50th anniversary as an independent  nation.

The programme of activities will commence at 2:00 p.m. culminating at midnight with the fireworks, and go through to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012. As is customary, the event will be staged along Ocean Boulevard and includes a kiddies’ area with a variety of rides as well as vending stalls offering food and art and craft items as well as entertainment. A  VIP party will be held at the pool-side of the Oceana Building where all the street activities and the fireworks, can be viewed from an excellent vantage point. Patrons can attend this party which will include party favours, delicious hors-d’oeuvres and a cash bar for a contribution of $2000.00.

The event will also feature a free stage show featuring popular artists such as G -Whizz, Khago, Ken Booth, George Nooks, Omari, Joan Flemmings and I-Octane. However, the highlight, will be the fireworks display at midnight.

The main sponsors for the event this year are Digicel and Scotiabank Jamaica. Other sponsors  include, Jamaica Observer, RJR94FM, Hitz 92FM, Fame FM, Television Jamaica, Jamaica Information Service,  Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), Jamaica Freight and Shipping, Port Authority, Thought To Finish and Allied Insurance Brokers Limited.

Fireworks on the Waterfront was first staged by the UDC in 1999 to usher in the new millennium and was intended to be a one-off event. However, due to overwhelming public demand the UDC has sought in subsequent years to stage the event.

Fireworks on the Waterfront fits into the overall development plans to make Downtown Kingston the ideal location for work, home, leisure, culture and entertainment.
