The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will be hosting a Food Bazaar at Orange Park, 12 Ocean Boulevard from July 30-August 3, except for Emancipation Day, August 1, from 12 noon to 3pm, as part of its Jamaica 50 celebrations. The Corporation has also endorsed the Kingston Craft Market’s “Celebrating Jamaica 50 with a Difference” which will be held from July 29- August 5 at 52 Port Royal Street.
Patrons will also be able to view the nearby National Gallery Exhibition every last Sunday inclusive of July 29 and August 26, from 11am to 4pm.
The UDC’s event will offer a mix of food vendors and entertainment celebrating the Jamaican culture. Additionally, on Sunday, July 29 at 11:30am patrons can take advantage of the Brunch and Rhythm paid luncheon hosted by Jacqui Tyson and Dr Dennis Howard at the Victoria Pier car park.
The Kingston Craft Market’s series of activities will include a church service at the Duke Street United Church on Sunday, July 29, starting at 9:00a.m. The other events which will be staged at the Kingston Craft Market include a week of sale offering 10-20 percent discounts on all items from July 30 to August 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ‘Augus Mawning’ Breakfast on August 1 starting at 9:00 a.m. The events will culminate with a fashion show, traditional dances and storytelling on August 5 starting at 10:30 a.m.
Authentic Jamaican cuisine will be on sale at the events at the Craft Market and music will be provided by Livingstone Disco. The events hosted at the Craft Market will serve to promote downtown Kingston as an ideal location for both business and pleasure and will be a welcoming atmosphere for tourists – both international and local.
The Urban Development Corporation (UDC), as part of its redevelopment plan for downtown Kingston, will be implementing rehabilitative works this year at the craft and food markets in the Central Business District.
The UDC is also currently working to finalize redevelopment plans for downtown Kingston and Port Royal through consultations with its stakeholders by hosting several meetings dubbed the Downtown Kingston Network Exchange. The redevelopment of downtown Kingston and Port Royal is aligned with the Vision 2030 Jamaica national development plan.
