UDC to Host ‘Schools in Extravaganza’ on Kington Waterfront

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will be hosting ‘Schools In Extravaganza’, a community outreach activity for schools in the downtown Kingston and its environs at Orange Square, located on the Kingston Waterfront, on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The Honourable Damion Crawford, M.P, Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment will give the main address at 11:00am

The day’s activity is aimed at facilitating access to educational resources and services in one convenient location at reasonable prices. The Corporation has also partnered with Project Educate Jamaica, a private sector led initiative aimed at distributing books to needy students. Other activities will include educational talks, special displays from government agencies and business entities.

The UDC is integrally involved with the planned redevelopment of downtown Kingston which is manifest through the attraction of private sector investments to the City Centre and through various social intervention initiatives, inclusive of development of the market districts and important cultural landmarks such as the Kingston Craft Market. The ‘Schools In Extravaganza’ is a part of this transformative approach to strengthening the socio-cultural fabric of one of the nation’s core urban centres.

The redevelopment of downtown Kingston is also a key charge of the Corporation to support the emerging needs of a developing first world city.
