Temporary Traffic Arrangements for UDC’S Fireworks

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will once again collaborate with several stakeholders including the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the National Works Agency to implement traffic arrangements for Firework on the Waterfront 2013. The annual event which will be held on Tuesday, December 31will get underway at 2:00pm and end at 1:00am. Major sponsors are New Era Homes Ltd and Digicel.

The following changes for the downtown Kingston area will be implemented to facilitate this event.

Access to the following roads will be limited as of Tuesday, December 31, at 12 noon –
• Duke Street in the vicinity of the Bank of Jamaica Car Park
• King Street at the intersection with Port Royal Street
• Orange Street just below the entrance to the multi storey Car Park
• Princess Street at the intersection with Port Royal Street
• West Street at the intersection with Port Royal Street
• Duke Street at the intersection with Nethersole Place (at 4:00 p.m.)

The flow of traffic on the following streets will be temporarily adjusted as follows:

a. Port Royal Street (Vehicles will not be allowed to park along this street).
b. Church Street before entrance to the Jamaica Conference Centre Multi-storey Car Park- will facilitate (Two Way Traffic)
c. Orange Street between Port Royal Street and the Multi Storey Car Park- will facilitate (Two Way Traffic)

Secured public parking will be offered at West Street Car Park, Downtown Kingston Transportation Centre, Harbour/Port Royal Street Car Park, Bank of Nova Scotia Car parks and Bank of Jamaica Car Park.

The event has a full slate of activities scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. which will include a children’s play area with a variety of rides, as well as vending stalls offering food, art and craft items and entertainment.

Fireworks on the Waterfront was first staged by the UDC in 1999 to usher in the new millennium and was intended to be a one-off event. However, due to overwhelming public demand the UDC has sought in subsequent years to stage the event
