Recognised as one of the Caribbean’s leading sustainable tourist attraction, the Green Grotto Caves adds yet another EarthCheck Platinum Certification Award to its already impressive record.
The award which was first copped by Green Grotto in 2012 is issued by EC3 Global through its EarthCheck Benchmarking and Certification Program and indicates EarthCheck’s highest accolade which recognises outstanding sustainability achievements and continuous reporting under the EarthCheck program for ten years.
The Green Grotto Caves which is owned by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has received the prestigious award in acknowledgement of their sustainability and educational projects. The sustainability projects focus on resource conservation through the use of pressure release taps, LED motion sensor lighting and low-flow toilets while the wildlife conservation projects protect the nine species of bats which inhabit the caves.
Additionally, through the training of members of staff in conservation values and practises, the Green Grotto Caves has developed a system which allows visitors, tourists and members of the community to be educated in the area of environmental conservation.
