The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is advancing the completion of phase one of the Port Royal Museum and Historic Walk Way project which will see the rehabilitation of the Old Naval Hospital in Port Royal. This Heritage tourism project will see the rehabilitation of the physical infrastructure necessary to facilitate the use of the building as a historic site.
The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is advancing the completion of phase one of the Port Royal Museum and Historic Walk Way project which will see the rehabilitation of the Old Naval Hospital in Port Royal. This Heritage tourism project will see the rehabilitation of the physical infrastructure necessary to facilitate the use of the building as a historic site. The scope of work includes the construction of a unisex bathroom, a tertiary sewage system consisting of a septic tank and reed bed which allows for the cleaning of water before being released into the sea and primarily, the rehabilitation of the building’s roof. When completed, the building is expected to house artefacts from the Port Royal glory days and the history of the town. The contract for phase one was valued at over $80 million. The project is being funded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF). UDC remains committed to making development happen for the people of Jamaica through its planning and implementation of development programmes while preserving the natural environment, traditions, customs and spurring economic growth.
