The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has signed a lease agreement for the management of the Downtown Kingston Transport Centre, Water Lane with the Transport Authority.
The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has signed a lease agreement for the management of the Downtown Kingston Transport Centre, Water Lane with the Transport Authority.
The duration for the lease is over five years with an option to renew for an additional five with the Transport Authority. The centre which was constructed by the UDC and opened in 2011 is a part of the vision of a new metropolis with an orderly transportation system.
The Downtown Kingston Transport Centre is sited on five lots covering an area of 4.6 Hectares with the bus park component constructed on 0.94 hectare. The park consists of 48 bus bays, with a capacity to accommodate some 273 buses daily on schedule,
Over the past four years, the centre was managed by the UDC and served primarily as the termination point for rural stage operators plying routes from St. Mary, St. Thomas, Portland, and Linstead in St. Catherine.
The UDC continues to spearhead its development plans for the downtown Kingston area with the advancement of works at the Festival Marketplace and Food Bazaar adjacent to the Kingston Craft Market. A number of divestment opportunities have also been completed in the urban area including sale of properties such as Machado Complex (J$104 million), Jamintel Building (J$150 million), Oceana Hotel (J$385 million), Lot 21, (J$75 million), all in Downtown Kingston.
Lease agreements were also signed for the Ideal Warehouse and Victoria Pier both in downtown Kingston.
