Kingston Craft Market to Host August Mawning and Community Fair

The Kingston Craft Market in collaboration with the Urban Development Corporation will be hosting ‘Augus Mawnin’ their annual income generating activity on August 4, 2017 at the facility at 1 Pechon Street.

The event will feature free health checks from the Waterfront Medical Centre including glucose testing for up to a maximum of 50 persons, unlimited, blood pressure and weight assessments, a cultural fashion show and skit, entertainment and music from 8:30am to 6pm. Local cuisine and craft items will also be on sale.

The event is being held, even as the UDC advances reconstruction work on the façade of the Kingston Craft Market Building which was damaged by fire earlier in the year at an estimated cost of  JMD$12.8 million.

Preliminary work involves the removal of twisted metal and burnt zinc sheeting from the building by contractors Prime Fencing & Roofing Systems. In observance of all necessary safety precautions, access to the burnt out section of the work site is being restricted to authorised persons/workers only.

The Festival Marketplace complex which includes the Food Bazaar and the Kingston Craft Market forms a part of the development of the Kingston Waterfront for which the UDC has responsibility. It is a waterfront extension of the Market and Commercial Districts to the north, as well as the terminal point of the east-west pedestrian arcade and promenade.
