World Wetlands Day 2018 – UDC HEMP SITE

Dr. Damian Graham (seated-right) General Manager, the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), explains how trees provide protection and food for different species of animals to students of McCauley Primary School. The occasion was World Wetlands Day 2018 held on February 2, 2018 at the UDC’s Hellshire Environmental Management Programme (HEMP) site located in Hellshire St. Catherine.

Students from primary and secondary schools across Kingston, St. Catherine and Clarendon were exposed to various wetland themed activities inclusive of tours of the Hellshire Wetlands area, Wetland and Environmental Talks and games.  The UDC through its Natural Resources Management and Environmental Planning Department is actively engaged in the deliberate protection and preservation of Jamaica’s wetlands, coastal and marine areas and the life they contain as a means of ensuring sustainable development and the best quality of life for the citizens of Jamaica.
