Dunn’s River Falls And Park Nominated As Semi-Finalist In National Awards Showcase

Dunn’s River Falls and Park (DRFP), is in the running to become one of 2017’s winners of the Tourism Service Excellence Award. The St. Ann Development Company (SADCO) – a affiliate of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), managed attraction will compete alongside ten other semi-finalists in the organisation category for the coveted award which spans entities involved in the areas of accommodation, ground transportation, attractions and the craft industry.

Mr. Jomo Pitterson, Manager of DRFP explained that 2017 has been an exceptional year for the attraction as DFRP has been recognized on numerous occasions for its contribution to the development of Jamaica’s Tourism product offering, “the receipt of this award, he noted would ‘top it all off’, placing the finishing touches on what was an outstanding year”.

Dunn’s River has continued to adapt to the needs of its customers having recently offered electronic tickets via its website to non-resident patrons. Other improvements included the 2017 addition of the Central Gardens offering more shopping experiences with a waterslide as the main feature. This has resulted in over 8000 local patrons alone flocking to the park to experience the new offerings. The attraction has also experienced an exponential increase in tourist arrivals via the cruise shipping business after the diverting of ships from cruise ports in other Caribbean islands after the 2017 hurricane season.

The St. Ann based attraction also completed training for 50 Falls guides in December 2017 as part of the Aquila's Centre for Cruise Excellence, the official training partner of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), which offers workshops and customized training programmes to Tour Operators, Ports and Destinations around the world. This makes Dunn’s River the attraction with the most certified tour guides globally.

The conferring of the 2017 Tourism Service Excellence Awards will take place on Saturday March 17, 2018 at the Montego Bay Conference Centre in Montego Bay St. James also built by the UDC.

The award which is conferred on a yearly basis by the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism rewards individuals and organisations within the regions of Ocho Rios, Negril, Kingston, the South Coast and Montego Bay for their commitment to the delivery of service excellence in the tourism industry while also promoting the performance of excellence within the sector.

The UDC’s relationship with Dunn’s River Falls and Park began in 1972 when the Corporation acquired the Belmont Property. Since 1998, the UDC has been engaged in major upgrading of the property with a view to ensuring parity with other world class attractions and enriching the Dunn’s River experience.
