UDC Partnering for Environmental Preservation

Danae Vaccianna, Protected Area Supervisor, Urban Development Corporation explains the usefulness of  a Jamaican Yellow Boa snake in controlling the rodent population while encouraging students from three basic schools – St Tekle Hammonait, St Isaacs and Holy Trinity on Maxfield Avenue in Kingston, their parents and school officials to protect the creature. The UDC recently partnered with the Rita Marley Foundation and the Hope Zoo Preservation Foundation recently to stage the first of a series of Environmental Education Workshop. Other environmental topics covered include reducing the plastic pollution in communities and on the beach. The UDC is charged with spearheading the protection of the Hellshire Hills and Goats Islands which forms a part of the Portland Bight Protected area through its Natural Resource and Environmental Management Department.
