UDC ROLLS OUT NEW PARK AND RIDE FOR FIREWORKS 2018

With an even larger showing anticipated for the 2018 staging of Fireworks on the Waterfront, the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is rolling out its new “Park and Ride” aimed at complementing its long established parking plan used for the Fireworks event throughout the years.

For a fee of $300, individuals have the option of parking at one of three satellite parking lots and being shuttled free of cost to and from the event on December 31 at 6:00pm. Each parking area will have adequate lighting and security guards. The areas are as follows:

  • National Heroes Circle Car Park located at the southern end of Marescaux Road and top of Duke Street in Central Kingston
  • Bellevue Hospital lands located off Windward Road
  • Garmex Free Zone Car Park located off Marcus Garvey Drive entrance on Industrial Terrace

The UDC has also made accessible these traditional car parks to be used during the event also at the same cost of J$300:

  • Temple Lane
  • West Street
  • Jamaica Customs, Newport East
  • Old Fisheries Complex Car Park, entrance on Port Royal Street
  • Downtown Kingston Transportation Centre, entrance on Water Lane
  • Craft Market Car Park, entrance on Port Royal Street
  • Harbour Street

Provisions have also been made for persons requiring premium parking to be accommodated at the Jamaica Conference Centre Multi-Storey Car Park and Scotia Bank Car Park 2 at a cost of J$500.

Activities are slated to begin at 3:00pm with the Kiddies and Vending Village and continue into the evening with the Street Party beginning at 6:30pm, Main Show at 9:30pm and the Fireworks Display at 12 midnight.

The event is made possible through sponsorship provided by: CHASE Fund, Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), Digicel, Jamaica Properties/Pan Jamaican Investment Trust, NMIA/Airports Authority of Jamaica, Jamaica Freight & Shipping, Main Event, Pepsi Jamaica, National Commercial Bank (NCB), Sandals, Factories Corporation of Jamaica, Television Jamaica, RE TV, RJR 94 FM and Grace Kennedy Limited among others.

Fireworks on the Waterfront was first staged by the UDC in 1999 to usher in the new millennium. The event has continued to ignite the interest of patrons, locally and internationally, making downtown Kingston the place to be annually on New Year's Eve.

There will also be Fireworks on the Bay in Ocho Rios to welcome in the New Year coordinated by the St. Ann Development Company, a subsidiary of the UDC scheduled to begin at 2:00pm with main stage show at 9:00pm. Main parking will include the area adjacent to the Ocho Rios Jerk Centre. Both events will feature paid VIP areas with complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres.
