TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CHANGES FOR DOWNTOWN KINGSTON TO FACILITATE UDC’S FIREWORKS 2018

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will on Monday, December 31, 2018 host its premier event, UDC Fireworks on the Waterfront on Ocean Boulevard in Downtown Kingston. Similar to prior staging, the Corporation has partnered with stakeholders such as the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the National Works Agency to implement the necessary traffic changes and road closures to facilitate the seamless execution of the event.

Road closures and traffic changes takes effect as early as Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 1:00 pm and will return to normalcy on Tuesday, January 1, 2018 at 12:00 PM. Traffic changes to be implemented include no left turns onto Ocean Boulevard from the intersections of Nethersole Place and Duke Street and also from Church Street onto Ocean Boulevard on Saturday, December 29.

While on Monday, December 31, from 3:00 pm, there will be restricted vehicular access to Ocean Boulevard. Starting at 4:00pm, Church and Port Royal Streets will be converted to two way traffic to facilitate entrance to the Jamaica Conference Centre Multi-storey Car Park while the southern section of King Street will be blocked.

Vehicles will be allowed access onto Orange Street to gain entry to the Multi-Storey Car Park at the Ocean Towers Apartment.

Two-way access will also be provided on lower section of Princess Street to allow entry and exit from Digicel Car Park with a similar arrangement for West Street to facilitate entry and exit from the West Street Car Park.

There will be no vehicular access to Ocean Boulevard from Pechon and Port Royal Streets.

Fireworks on the Waterfront was first staged by the UDC in 1999 to usher in the new millennium and was intended to be a one-off event.  However, the event has continued to ignite the interest of patrons making downtown Kingston the place to be annually on New Year's Eve.

There will also be Fireworks on the Bay in Ocho Rios to welcome the New Year, coordinated by the St. Ann Development Company, a subsidiary of the UDC scheduled to begin at 2:00pm, with stage show at 9:00pm. Main parking will include the area adjacent to the Ocho Rios Jerk Centre. Both events while free to the public, offer paid VIP areas with complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres, for those patrons requiring that experience.
