KINGSTON, JAMAICA – March 7, 2025 – The Urban Development Corporation (UDC)
is set to elevate Jamaica’s tourism and recreational landscape with the lease and development of the
iconic Green Grotto Caves and Attractions in Discovery Bay, St. Ann for the people of Jamaica.
This initiative presents an unparalleled opportunity to create a premier eco-adventure destination,
seamlessly blending environmental preservation, community involvement, and economic growth.
As the stewards of national development, the UDC is calling on visionary investors to
submit proposals that will transform the Green Grotto Caves into a dynamic attraction, offering
immersive experiences for Jamaicans and visitors alike. The 69-acre site, rich in history and natural
beauty, is poised to become a hub for adventure tourism, with innovative experiences that cater to all
ages and interests.
Potential development ideas could include extreme cave tours, introducing marked trails and
equipment for rappelling, designed for thrill-seekers and fitness enthusiasts. A nature-integrated play
area using sustainable, natural, and recycled materials could create a family-friendly recreational
space, while a scenic lake and recreational deck may provide paddle boats, fishing opportunities,
-end-
intermittent jetties for swimming, and an event-friendly dining deck. Visitors may also experience
exhilarating rock climbing, zipline and canopy tours, hiking and bicycle trails, and nature walks,
with an aviary showcasing Jamaica’s rich biodiversity. Additionally, the creation of cave-themed
cabins on stilts, nestled in the treetops, could offer a rustic yet luxurious escape while preserving the
rugged beauty of the landscape.
“This project is about more than just tourism; it’s about creating meaningful experiences for
Jamaicans while ensuring economic benefits for local communities,” said Sherlock Glenister,
Deputy General Manager, UDC. “We are seeking a development partner who shares our vision of a
sustainable, world-class adventure destination that resonates with both locals and international
visitors.”
The UDC is committed to ensuring that the project integrates seamlessly with surrounding
communities, fostering job creation, entrepreneurship, and local engagement. Investors are invited to
submit proposals that not only enhance the attraction’s appeal but also contribute to the sustainable
development of the area.
Proposals must be submitted by Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM to the UDC’s Office
Centre Building in Kingston. Interested parties can access the Information Memorandum Document
(IMD) on the UDC’s website at https://udcja.com/tenders-rfps-and-leases/ or visit the UDC office
