Kingston, Jamaica- March 10, 2025- The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is committed to
cementing Dunn’s River Falls & Park as a premier Jamaican attraction, driving greater investment
into the country through a comprehensive redevelopment plan. As we embark on this transformative
journey, we acknowledge the concerns expressed by our craft vendors regarding the potential impact
on their livelihoods.
We want to assure our craft vendors that they remain an integral part of the Dunn’s River
experience and a key consideration in our development plans. The UDC values their contribution in
delivering an authentically Jamaican cultural experience to visitors, and we are committed to their
continued engagement and empowerment.
To this end, we have maintained open dialogue with our craftspeople, facilitating multiple
stakeholder meetings, including discussions with the Member of Parliament. Our goal is to ensure that
their interests are protected, whether through training and capacity-building initiatives, the
enhancement of their workspaces, or other measures that support their long-term success.
Deputy General Manager, Subsidiary Management and Revenue Generation, with
responsibility for Dunn’s River Falls & Park, Mr. Sherlock Glenister said, “Our craftspeople can be
assured of our commitment to their success. We are actively exploring ways to enhance opportunities
for them, including training and business development support, while ensuring that they continue to
thrive within this iconic attraction.”
Regarding concerns that tour guides may not always direct visitors to the craft market, the
UDC recognizes the importance of integrating our craft vendors into the overall visitor experience.
While tour operators operate independently, we are open to discussions on how to better showcase the
craftsmanship and cultural offerings of our vendors, ensuring a more inclusive tourism experience.
As stewards of national development, the UDC remains focused on the inclusive growth of
Jamaica and its people. Our investment projects, spanning commercial, residential, and recreational
spaces, are designed to uplift communities and enhance quality of life. Notable projects include the
Harmony Beach Park in Montego Bay, the now 50% complete Portmore Resilience Park, and the
upcoming Raintree Commercial Complex in Caymanas, which will create significant economic
opportunities.
The UDC remains dedicated to building a modern Jamaica that serves the needs of its
citizens, ensuring that our national treasures, like Dunn’s River Falls & Park, continue to provide
economic and cultural benefits for Jamaicans.
The UDC looks forward to sharing more of its plans and projects as we continue to Make
Development Happen, for all Jamaicans.
