UDC ACTS SWIFTLY TO REMOVE UNAUTHORIZED FENCING,

RESTORING PUBLIC ACCESS AT LONG BAY BEACH PARK Kingston, Jamaica, April 21, 2026: The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has moved swiftly to remove an unauthorized barrier that was erected on its Long Bay Beach property in Negril, restoring full public access.

The Corporation confirmed that it did not install the fence and, within one hour of being notified of its presence, took decisive action to have it removed. The UDC reiterates that it maintains clear policies governing beach access, which prioritize use by Jamaicans and the wider public. Describing the incident as deeply regrettable, the Corporation emphasized its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Jamaican can enjoy the country’s natural assets.

It noted that it will continue to act promptly and decisively in upholding this mandate, reinforcing a culture where all beaches under its management remain open, accessible, and welcoming to citizens and stakeholders alike.
