THE URBAN DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION REQUIRES THE SERVICES OF A SENIOR SPATIAL ANALYST (Fixed Term Contract)

Job Summary:

The incumbent provides technical expertise in Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis to support planning, development, investment, land management and other business decisions across the Corporation. The individual must have the capacity to develop spatial models; integrate spatial and non-spatial datasets; and conduct spatial analysis using a range of GIS, CAD and database management applications. The incumbent will translate spatial data into practical insights to support decision-making and will also assist with the continuous improvement of standards and operating procedures relevant to the Corporation’s use of Geographic Information Systems.

 

The ideal candidate should have:

 

Specific Knowledge, Qualification and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Spatial Planning, Land Administration, Engineering or another spatially related discipline

  • Certification or postgraduate training in Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, earth observation or another relevant area would be an asset

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in geospatial analysis, spatial modelling, geospatial data management, mapping and data visualization

  • Experience in applying spatial analysis to address business needs and support strategic decisions

  • Experience in integrating spatial data with property, demographic, socioeconomic, infrastructure, environmental or other non-spatial datasets

  • Experience in developing applications for web mapping and spatial data presentation

  • Sound knowledge of Esri’s ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online environments

  • Knowledge of SQL Server database management, Python or other relevant data analysis/programming tools would be an asset

 

Required Skills and Specialized Techniques

 

  • Ability to connect spatial analysis with business needs and translate findings into practical insights to support decision-making

  • Skilled in spatial modelling and analysis, including site suitability, proximity, accessibility, and land-use analysis

  • Proficient in spatial data management, integration and visualization, including the use of maps, dashboards, graphs and 3D models

  • Adept in ArcGIS Pro, including Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, and Image Analyst

  • Demonstrated experience in ArcGIS Online applications, including Dashboards, Story Maps, Survey123, and Experience Builder

  • Practical experience in field data collection, including the use of GPS and mobile GIS tools to capture, validate, and integrate field-based spatial data

  • Sound knowledge of spatial data structures, formats, and applied cartographic principles

  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
